Looking for the personal version?Set up Idealist (volunteers & nonprofit jobs)

An organization profile generally expects an established (often recognized) nonprofit.

Having browsed Idealist as a volunteer (personal guide), now register the organization and post the opportunities you need filled.

Recruit by being specific

The listings that work tell people exactly what they’ll do, the skills needed, the time commitment, and the impact. Vague asks get ignored; specific, mission-driven ones attract the right volunteers.

  1. 1

    Register your organization

On idealist.org, create the organization’s profile and verify it represents the charity (you manage it from your personal account).

  2. 2

    Post a clear opportunity

Write a listing with a specific role, the skills/time needed, location or remote, and the impact. Reuse the strong examples you saved as a volunteer.

  3. 3

    Respond promptly

Reply to interested people quickly and have a simple next step (a short call or form). Responsiveness is what converts interest into committed volunteers.

Common questions

How is this different from my personal Idealist account?

Personally you browse and learn the volunteer’s side. As an organization you register the charity and post opportunities — recruiting rather than searching.

What makes a listing succeed?

Specificity: a clear role, the skills and time required, and the concrete impact. Then respond quickly to anyone who reaches out.
